Sara produced an album of music for children, and it's FREE to download at www.kindnesskids.bandcamp.com!

"Join In The Song," by KindnessKids, is a unique venture at the intersection of music and child development research.

The goal was to create an album of songs about kindness to self, others, animals, and the earth – and do it in a groovy way to get kids moving together (because research suggests that moving together to music increases trust and feelings of affiliation)!

The project was spearheaded by singer-songwriter Sara Beck and Colleen Russo, both PhD candidates at Vanderbilt's Peabody College. They received a grant from the Vanderbilt Curb Center for Arts, Enterprise, and Public Policy to design this album and record these tunes.

We are thrilled to provide this album FREE to all, thanks to the generous support of The Vanderbilt Curb Center for Arts, Enterprise, and Public Policy, and many Nashville artists. Several Nashville songwriters contributed songs, and you can hear kids singing on most of the tracks as well. The four areas of kindness were inspired by the non-profit organization, Children's Kindness Network.

We hope that these songs will benefit children, teachers, and parents everywhere.

Tips for getting the most out of the album:

Tip #1:
Move to the music with your child! Sway, stomp, march, and dance... This can encourage feelings of connectedness and positive behaviors like helping and sharing.

Tip#2:
Share these songs with friends! Children are more likely to choose friends who like the same songs. These songs can provide children an opportunity to create social bonds around positive music at an early age.

Tip #3:
Sing Along! Learn the words and talk about the messages! These songs are meant to be starting points for conversations about kindness. In particular, kindness to ourselves, each other, the earth, and animals. Help your kids notice and make meaning of the messages in these songs, and relate the lyrics to situations their every day life.
